What we like, and what to watch
What we like
- Low entry prices. 4K cameras such as the C100 Pro and C100+ start at $79.00, and the 8K-claimed SJ30 lists at $259.00, with most mounts and straps at $5 to $20.
- More than action cams. The same store sells body cameras, a 3-channel dash cam (M60), home smart cameras and digital cameras, plus activity-specific accessories for moto, ski, surf and pets.
- Long track record. SJCAM says it was founded in Shenzhen in 2010, and it publishes warranty terms and an authenticity checker for spotting counterfeit units.
Watch out for
- Opened items can be refunded within 30 days, but a 15% restocking fee may apply, and sale items are non-refundable.
- Change-of-mind return shipping and the original shipping charge are on you.
- The warranty covers the camera for 12 months and the battery for only 6 months. Accessories have no warranty.
- Prices and stock were inconsistent across pages (for example, the C400 showed at both $159.00 and $279.00), and specs such as battery life are the brand's own claims, sometimes stated differently on the same page.
Who should buy from SJCAM
SJCAM is worth a look if you want an inexpensive 4K or 8K action camera, a magnetic POV cam or a multi-channel dash cam and can live with the brand's own spec claims. Confirm the price and stock on the product page, and be sure about the model before you order, because returns of opened items can cost a restocking fee.
SJCAM
Budget-minded vloggers, riders and drivers who want a 4K action camera, a magnetic POV cam or a multi-channel dash cam for well under the price of the big-name brands, and who are fine relying on the brand's own spec claims.
